Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 3.5 million units in just four days following its launch on June 5, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo game system ever. The Switch 2 has set the sales record for the company despite the much higher price point than its predecessor and a lack of major Nintendo games at launch. The hybrid console comes with a bigger screen and more power than the original Switch, alongside redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers and new social features. 3l6z5g

“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” Nintendo of America president and COO Doug Bowser said in a statement. “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”

Nintendo Expects to Sell 15 Million Switch 2 Units in FY 2026 3i242o

At its financial earnings call in May for fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, Nintendo said it expected to sell 15 million units of the Switch 2 during FY 2026 — a projection that many industry analysts and investors called conservative, considering the demand for the device.

In his reply to investors, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa had said Switch 2's sales projection aimed to reach Switch 1 sales seen in the first 10 months of the console's launch in March 2017. Furukawa also cited the higher price of the new console as a factor for the company's conservative sales estimates.

“Nintendo Switch 2 is priced relatively high compared to Nintendo Switch, so we recognize that there are corresponding challenges to early adoption,” he had said in his response.

With the Switch 2 setting a sales record, it seems “early adoption” wasn't as big a problem as the company thought it would be. The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 (roughly Rs. 38,600) and is also available as a bundle with Mario Kart World at $499.99 (roughly Rs. 42,900).

Nintendo's new hybrid console comes with a larger display than its predecessor — a 7.9-inch LCD touch screen that s 1920x1080 resolution, HDR10, and variable refresh rates of up to 120Hz. When connected to a compatible TV, the Switch 2 s video output of up to 4K resolution at 60 fps.

The Switch 2 also packs more power than the original Switch. The custom Nvidia processor enables the console to run graphically demanding triple-A games like Cyberpunk 2, Split Fiction and Hogwarts Legacy. The redesigned Joy-Cons now mouse functionality and attach to the device magnetically.
