Avengers: Infinity War will be re-released in India on October 2, Disney India has announced. Unfortunately, only the Hindi-language dub is returning to theatres, so those hoping to get a big-screen experience of the original thing – you know, in English – are out of luck.
Disney India cited the “response to the Hindi version” alongside “an unprecedented record at the Indian box office” as the two reasons for Infinity War’s re-release in the country. While the studio didn’t provide any numbers to back up the former, the latter has been clear for some time: the third Avengers chapter stands as the highest-grossing Hollywood film of all-time in India.
Going by the latest available box office figures via Box Office Mojo, Infinity War grossed $43.59 million in India, which is about Rs. 294.26 crores. It’s the only Hollywood movie to enter the Rs. 200-crore club in the country. And with the release, there’s now a chance that the film might cross the Rs. 300-crore mark.
Globally, Infinity War ended its theatrical run at $2.046 billion, as the fourth highest-grossing film of all-time behind The Force Awakens ($2.068 billion). Of course, these figures don’t for inflation.
Avengers: Infinity War’s Hindi re-release date in India – October 2 – isn’t a Friday, because it’s been chosen out of being a national holiday due to the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
